Is digital enough?
As many passionate hobbyist photographers, I have been posting quite some pictures online, on social media and on more photography-oriented platforms.
But after a while, I felt something was missing but without being really able to point out something specific.
Until I decided to re-experience analogue photography with rolls and instant films. It was then when I re-enjoyed the satisfaction and pleasure of holding the pictures on my hands and when I realized that the photographs are incomplete without their physical dimension, without the printing.
In the past, I used to print my digital photos but now I couldn’t even remember when I gave my photo printer away, it was for sure more than a decade ago.
So I decided to go back into printing without hesitation, I got the newest A3+ professional photo printer, a monitor calibrator and fine art photography paper. In almost no time I was printing again.
Immediately, that special joy of producing by yourself something of your own was back. With one unexpected and valuable benefit.
I have found out that when I choose the photographs to print, I become much more selective then when I decide what to post online. I definitely value more the physical photographs and not because the cost of ink or paper but because of the time and passion I dedicated in properly printing and storing them.
So, no digital is not enough, at least not for me.
